Brookhaven's Seminar Snapshots "Grieving the Loss of an Infant" Presenter: Jill Butler, MS, LMFT Date: March 3rd 2010 Synopsis: Grief characteristic of child loss can greatly vary from interpersonal and relational distress associated with other types of loss. Recognizing these subtle yet significant differences can aid clinicians in promoting a healthy response to grief in clients. This presentation aided attendees in defining the unique and difficult challenges faced by couples during the loss of an infant. In addition to discussing the distinctive aspects of infant loss, Jill explored a variety of practical steps therapists can use to facilitate the grieving process. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and attendees were glad to receive information on this sensitive and under addressed topic; the gathering was a great success.
