Brookhaven's Seminar Snapshots "Suicide Prevention: How Clinicians Can Maximize a Desire to Live" Presenter: Co-Presented by Timothy Doty, Psy.D., and William Berman, Ph.D. Date: November 4, 2009 Synopsis: Many clinicians and lay-people feel a sense of anxiety when dealing with suicidal crises. Likewise, clients commonly ask clinicians how to help in suicidal crises and how to connect other suicidal individuals to community resources (which is a protective factor against the act of suicide). This presentation helped equip clinicians to quickly assess suicide risk in their clients and make recommendations to concerned third parties about how to respond to suicidal individuals. During their presentation, doctors Doty and Berman examined the interface between spirituality as a protective factor and mental health treatment in regards to promoting a desire to live in patients/clients.
